Tumi Akeke

Tumi is a 2nd-year MD student at Stanford, where she is studying the role of mitochondria in glioblastoma and Parkinson’s disease in the Wang lab. She holds a B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Edinburgh, after which her passion for advocacy led her to get an MPH in Health Policy at UNC Chapel Hill. Outside of school and research, Tumi leads a mentorship program for low-income, underrepresented premeds, where she hopes to improve the representation of minority students in medicine. In her free time, she enjoys going to concerts, traveling, and dancing
